Scaling back production is understandable. Demand for diecast aircraft and plastic models is down, down, down. Producing anything successful at this moment in time is a tall order. New products emerging n the current climat typically have only a small "pop" and no "legs" whatsoever. Once the economic slowdown runs its course, manufacturers will hopefully throw the switch to the "on position" again.

Continued price inflation, on the otherhand, is just nonsense. We recently flat-out rejected a project because the manufacturer simply wanted too much money. Pure greed. Oil prices are down to a third of what they were in July making plastic cheaper and all the manufacturing inputs less expensive, as well. The dollar is fairly strong against foreign currencies, meaning that it buys more. The nation is negative growth mode, deflation is a distinct possibility. So, any manufacturer citing cost increases and trying to raise prices today is full of bull.

Here at the 'Cat we are bringing in new lines but are really emphasizing value to our suppliers. "Value" not meaning "cheap" but rather providing a lot for the money. The Hobby Master and Century Wings lines represent excellent values in my mind, with Marushin and Corgi not far behind.

Bad Cat's Expanded Holiday Hours

It's that time of year again when everyone is busy dealing with life's issues. The least of which is Christmas shopping for military toys. Recognizing this problem, the 'Cat is expanding its hours 6 am - 6 pm Pacific seven days a week. That's right, we'll have at least one line open both Saturday and Sunday to take orders and answer questions. Give us a call toll free 1-888-848-4690.

Veterans Day Sale at the 'Cat

Our annual Veterans Day sale begins today through Tuesday at Bad Cat Toys. Nows your chance to pick up some great Christmas gifts at bargain prices. We have plastic model airplanes and diecast aircraft cheaper now than ever!

1-888-848-4690 Toll Free Available at the 'Cat

To help facilitate communication during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Bad Cat has reactivated its toll-free telephone number. When you call the 'Cat, you really call the folks at the 'Cat! We do not utilize any commerical phone banks or sweat rooms in foreign countries. When the phone rings we drop what we're doing and answer, its that simple. Whether its someone in accounting, sales, warehouse, or my office, whoever is available answers.

A look at this latest batch of fresh airplanes gives mostly positive vibes. The detail is there, fore sure. Excellent panel lines and nice, crisp paint definitely make these birds look the part. The amount of plastic on this models seems to have increased, however. We know that plastic can increase detail and lower manufacturing costs but some collectors may not like the move away from pure metal.

Marushin airplanes are HEAVY. I mean heavy. Don't drop one on your foot or throw it at your brother. I've always had a great fondness for heavy diecast pieces, feeling I'm getting my money's worth. Marushin also has excellent panel lines, paint and nails the overall look of a period airplane to a tee. Most of the line are Japanese WWII aircraft and as such, there are some rare subjects like the J2M3 Raiden, N1K2 George, KI-84, and the K5Y1 on floats (I bet most of your haven't ever heard of this last one!).

The downside for American collectors is that there is no real cockpit to speak of; mostly just an empty hole inside the canopy. Pilots are sold separately and do have a seat to sit on in the airplane, however. Frankly, up on the shelf or displayed in a glass case, nobody would really know the difference. These pieces also require about 20 minutes of assembly by the purchaser. Nothing major, just screw this to that, etc., but to collectors spoiled by Franklin Mint, the extra effort may or may not be welcomed.

I think 90% of collectors will love any airplane made by Marushin. Premium quality, premium price, unique subjects, its all fun.

21st Century Toys 1:18 Flak 88 Due Nov 10th

That sound you are hearing in the background is thousand of people falling out of their chairs as they read the title of this article. Yes, its true. 21st Century Toys Flak 88 is on the water and due to ship from here on approximately November 10th. This is one of the few new 1:18 military toys we have seen this year and are apt to see for the forseeable future.

The Flak 36 88mm gun more commonly referred to as the "German 88", earlier versions were originally developed as Anti-Aircraft guns but their fire power, armor penetration and mobility made them just as effective against tanks and other ground targets. Thus the FlaK 36 served a dual purpose as an Anti-Tank gun as well as an Anti-Aircraft gun and it was equally effective in either role. Furthermore, it could be fired from either the transport configuration on the two-piece carriage (Casons) or from the fixed/firing position on its cruciform platform (with carriages detached) which enhanced the guns utility.

21st Century Toys' 1:18 scale model of the FlaK 36 88mm Gun is magnificent 14 inches in length and stands well over a foot tall. It is a must-have for any collector!!! The gun both elevates and traverses, the two side cruciform legs fold for transport configuration and the carriages detach from the gun base. This detailed replica is made of high-quality, injection-molded ABS plastic. No figures are included.

Our Preorder price of $89.99 is a Preorder Special passed-on from the manufacturer. Reorders will cost us approx. 30% more with a corresponding increase in price. So order now to secure the Preorder price.
